A Few Of My (New) Favorite Apps

One thing I love about my gTablet is how it can effectively replace my handheld device and the small screen format. The larger, and more user-friendly, screen found on my Viewsonic gTablet, increases my ability to effectively use smartphone devices. In particular, I find that I am using my gTablet more like my laptop or desktop for editing documents, developing and addressing legal issues/ideas, and keeping up-to-date on current world and legal events.

I have really come to rely on two (or three) applications for effectively managing information.

The first application is Dropbox. Dropbox enables me to post files "to the cloud" for use/consumption away from the office. It also enables me to collaborate with staff, without having to remotely access my computer.

One of the large problems with Dropbox is the need for internet access. I solve this problem with a second app, called Documents to Go. DTG is a long-standing application from the days of the original Palm device. The application was well-respected then, and continues as a consistently powerful resource. DTG syncs with the files on your computer for offline use on your handheld or tablet device. As a test, I synced all of my client files onto my gTablet's SD Card. Fantastic! I could work on a document outside of the office, and return the next day to sync and continue all without the need for internet access.

Finally, I have fallen in love with RepliGo Reader. This application functions like Adobe Acrobat and allows you to manipulate your PDF documents with annotations, comments and highlights. The lack of PDF annotating capabilities makes a tablet or smartphone virtually worthless. RepliGo Reader solves my biggest problem with integrating a smartphone or tablet into my law practice. Now, I can leave the office with PDF files synced through Dropbox or DTG, and edit, annotate, and comment on those documents with the same functionality as my desktop copy of Adobe Acrobat Pro. The "paperless" lawyer will love this application.

I highly recommend that you integrate all three application into your law practice.
